In response to an October 19th New York Times editorial by Michael Pollan (“In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto”) which proposed that (then) President Elect Obama hire a “White House farmer,” a blog was created with 70+ candidates for the job.  Among the candidates, Milwaukee’s Will Allen, founder of Growing Power and winner of a 2008 MacArthur “Genius” Grant.

Voting runs through Saturday, January 31st.

The top three vote-getters will be submitted for consideration to President Obama.  Currently, Allen has just under 1,300 votes, putting him in the top 10.

Vote today! Will Allen for White House Farmer!

  1. I just checked the site and it looks like Mr. Allen came in a very close 4th place. He had a very strong showing. The top vote getter was a Madison, WI farmer by the name of Clare Strader from Troy Community Farms. Wisconsin was represented! 2 in the top 3!! Congrats to both Will and Clare!
