In response to an October 19th New York Times editorial by Michael Pollan (“In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto”) which proposed that (then) President Elect Obama hire a “White House farmer,” a blog was created with 70+ candidates for the job. Among the candidates, Milwaukee’s Will Allen, founder of Growing Power and winner of a 2008 MacArthur “Genius” Grant.
Voting runs through Saturday, January 31st.
The top three vote-getters will be submitted for consideration to President Obama. Currently, Allen has just under 1,300 votes, putting him in the top 10.

I just checked the site and it looks like Mr. Allen came in a very close 4th place. He had a very strong showing. The top vote getter was a Madison, WI farmer by the name of Clare Strader from Troy Community Farms. Wisconsin was represented! 2 in the top 3!! Congrats to both Will and Clare!
