I became a fan of ESG when I picked up a vinyl copy of their 1983 album “Come Away With ESG” several years ago. Formed by the Scroggins sisters, Maria, Renee and Valerie, in 1981 this Bronx based minimalist funk group would create a lasting impact that wouldn’t come to fruition until well into the 90’s. That’s when many other artists started sampling heavily from their meager catalog of work. TLC, Gang Star, J-Dilla and the Beastie Boys to name but a few.
